In the small Swiss haute horlogerie community one might view Dan Spitz as an abnormality. You see he is an American that headed down a path toward the most covertly guarded secrets of Swiss high horology, to be unmasked into his hands.
Dan is a third generation Master Watchmaker of complications specialist. He remembers sitting on his Grandfather’s lap in his watch and jewelry store in the Catskill Mountains of New York when he was eight years old staring at the inside of a Patek Philippe in amazement. His childhood bedroom resembled piles of torn apart mechanical and electrical devices from not only his father’s giving, but most of his neighbors. He just had a viable way to somehow repair things that others gave up on.
Spitz is the former head Master Watchmaker of Complications Specialist and instructor for all watchmakers at Chopard, North and South America after sales service centers, as well as being the creator of all teaching courses for all watchmakers under his direction. He held these same positions for DeGrisogono timepieces and Leviev timepieces watchmaking for many years.
He has owned and operated four restoration and after sales service centers specializing in pre 1980’s mechanical complicated timepieces. He holds a 4 year watchmaking degree from the Bulova school of watchmaking and has received the scholarship, and graduated from, the most prestigious traditionally trained watchmaking school on our planet, WOSTEP, in the heart of watchmaking, Neuchatel, Switzerland. He was taught by the courses creator Antoine Simonin in Switzerland. Dan was also a ghost builder for many brands, was the consultant for parts longevity testing of new calibers coming to market for Chopard, such as the 4 barrel LUC quattro caliber, as well as other major brands. He has extensive knowledge of vintage time pieces.
Dan also holds the prestigious Swiss title of being nominated for the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve) member and invited by personal invitation from the academy to be a juror of the GPHG awards.. The equivalent of the Oscars for Watchmaking.
Dan holds private brand degrees that range from perpetual calendars to repeaters. However, his love and passion is the vintage watches he grew up with in the family business. He sits at his watchmaking bench trying to save one piece of METAL after another for the centuries ahead.
Dan Spitz has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, has multiple Grammy nominations for his songs, earned multiple Platinum and Gold albums in most countries, his music is featured in many of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster movies and soundtrack albums from Steven King & Arnold Swarzeneger to Adam Sandler’s work, was the first heavy metal artist to have his music playing on a second planet (MARS) on the NASA curiosity rover, is the first recording artist to have a top 10 charting song on two planets, and was the co-creator of not one, but many, genres of music.
Dan Spitz, a visionary musician, broke free from heavy metal constraints, paving the way for artists to experiment and create music without genre boundaries.
With a sound born from his own soul and blood, he embodied his purpose and achieved greatness through his craft, leaving a lasting impact on the music industry. As a master of his art, he excelled during a time when digital manipulation was not an option, showcasing his raw talent and leaving an indelible mark on the music world.
Job well done Dan!
